Abstract:Objective To investigate the effect of intense pulsed light therapy combined with cyclosporine eye drops in the treatment of patients with dry eye caused by meibomian gland dysfunction. Methods 114 patients with dry eye caused by meibomian gland dysfunction admitted to our hospital from August 2022 to October 2024 were selected as the study objects. The patients were divided into control group and observation group by random number table, with 57 cases in each group. The control group was treated with cyclosporine eye drops. The observation group was treated with intense pulsed light therapy combined with cyclosporine eye drops. Clinical efficacy, Clinical efficacy, Ocular Surface function Index[Ocular Surface Disease Index (OSDI), tear film Break up time (BUT), Corneal fluorescein staining (FL) scores and tear secretion test (Shirmer) indexes] and adverse reactions were analyzed and compared between the two groups. Results The total effective rate of observation group was significantly higher than that of control group (P < 0.05). Before treatment, there were no significant differences in OSDI score, BUT, FL, Shirmer test and other indicators related to ocular surface function between the two groups (P > 0.05). After treatment, the indexes related to ocular surface function of both groups were significantly improved, and the indexes related to ocular surface function of the observation group were significantly better than those of the control group (P < 0.05). Before treatment, there were no significant differences in the scores of meibomian gland secretions and the scores of meibomian gland secretory capacity between the two groups (P > 0.05). After treatment, the two indicators of meibomian gland examination in both groups were significantly improved compared with those before treatment, and the two indicators of meibomian gland examination in the observation group were significantly better than those in the control group (P < 0.05). There was no significant difference in the incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups (P > 0.05). Conclusion Intense pulsed light therapy combined with cyclosporine eye drops can improve the efficacy and symptoms of patients with dry eye caused by meibomian gland dysfunction, with high safety.
